"I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13)

Brave, Curious, Determined

Welcome to Class 1!

We are a mixed Reception, Year 1 & 2 class, led by Mrs Caroline Berkley and Mrs Branwen Thomas, assisted by Mrs Judith Page and Mrs Jane Bagnall.

At the beginning of each new topic we try to begin with an entry point event.  This involves either a dress up day, a visitor to school or a class visit to spark the children's imagination for the topic.

We often take part in cross-curricular activities, using our knowledge from the topic to help our writing and English.

In RE we follow the Emmanuel scheme and this allows us to teach about many different religions. We celebrate these differences and it allows us to learn how to respect each other and understand right from wrong.

Reception children develop skills throughout the year and work towards Early Learning Goals. Details of the areas covered can be found here:

We also ensure that children experience the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning, which  are:

playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

We make use of our ‘outside’ classroom as often as possible, which allows the children to use new knowledge combined with their incredible imaginations to immerse themselves in a variety of activities to further their learning.
