Oak Class
Oak Class
Welcome to Oak Class Page!
We are a small and caring mixed Year 5 and 6 class taught by Mrs. Ali Ranson. Lessons cover a broad and stimulating curriculum with a changing focus each half term ( see our termly curriculum letters below). Oak class is a fun and nurturing place to learn. You are welcome to book a time to visit our lovely school to see this for yourself.
In Oak Class we love reading. Our class reader this term is ‘Race to the Frozen North by Catherine Johnson, which will fit with the chilly winter weather we are experiencing. We have one whole class guided reading session and four fluency reading sessions a week. As well as daily opportunities for individual reading. Our class also run a thriving reading club for the rest of the school on Monday lunchtimes.
Writing in Oak Class is taught within the three big ideas of composition, communication and ambition. It is taught through a range of different genres and texts throughout the year (See the Curriculum letter below for specific termly information of texts and genres). Alongside grammar detective work, drama and circle discussions to explore each text and genre; we use a five-step approach of: plan it, draft it, revise it, edit it and publish it. This allows the children to see that writing is a process and we can support them through each stage of it to reflect the features expected in the different kinds of writing they need to produce. Their wonderful work is proudly displayed on our class Writing Gallery wall.
Oak class love to investigate whether it is science, humanities, art or design technology. Through exploration, experimentation and experience days, engaging learning is at the heart of our lessons.
PE lessons are great fun on a Monday afternoon and are run by Kicks and Tricks, who have recently won a Suffolk regional award for best family business. Also, during the Spring Term we have Gymnastics lessons at the amazing Pipers Vale Gymnastics Centre in Ipswich and swimming lessons at Framlingham College. Bedfield School has the Gold Sports Mark and we attend sporting fixtures regularly throughout the year.
Wednesday afternoons are an exciting part of our week too as we have French and clarinet lessons. French is taught by Emily from Kidslingo and clarinets by Mr. Kershaw from Suffolk Music Service. This gives all pupils the chance to learn an instrument in their time at Bedfield school. Children then get to participate in the WCET festival and perform to an audience at the end of the year with lots of children from other schools.
We also enjoy team building days with other local primary schools run throughout the year.
